8 Ups And 3 Downs For WWE NXT 2.0 (Sep 28)

Downs...

3. "Woke" Brigade, LOL

Joe Gacy

Hot on the heels of seemingly brushing Joe Gacy's new "woke" character under the carpet after it garnered the wrong sort of publicity a week ago, what did NXT 2.0 decide to do with the star this week? Throw him straight back into the ring and spew a few "woke" buzzwords before confessing that he most definitely had not been "Cancelled".

It was evident from last week's first sit-down "safe space" speech that someone in the back simply thought it would be a hoot to take aim at the "woke" generation who wouldn't be seen dead watching the one-time black and gold show. The only problem is, this gimmick very much feels like an old man's view of the current "misunderstood" generation. Meaning that it's about as nuanced and detailed as a spoon full of vanilla ice cream.

Gacy can seriously go in the ring and clearly has the chops to hold an audience on the mic, it's just a shame his early work is being overshadowed by schtick that likely should never have left the writer's room. If you're looking for "edgy", Vince, this ain't it.
