The disappointing climax to the Rey Mysterio/Seth Rollins feud was paid lip service Monday night, but it only took about five minutes for things to turn the corner and change directions.

Rollins made himself out to be the martyr in all of this before saying that Rey – and his extracted eye – was in the past and he was looking to the future, but seconds later, Aleister Black was right in front of him as the Monday Night Messiah’s next challenge.

While it would be easy to lament how things turned out – Black lost the match and was beaten down afterward – he had to cope with Murphy’s interference before and throughout the match, so it’s hard to hold that completely against him. Plus, it sets Aleister up to overcome Rollins and his disciple rather than thwarting him right away.

Of course, this assumes WWE is moving in this direction, which these days is tough to predict.
