5. Dumb Things Announcers Say

You really can’t make this stuff up.

Michael Cole was trying really hard to sell Nia Jax’s backstabbing as a devastating blow to Ember Moon, but it’s difficult to take him seriously when he says something unintentionally hilarious.

Cole asked about Moon’s state of mind, noting that Ember “idolized” Nia Jax, that they trained and came up together. First off, idolized? That’s an awfully strong word to throw out there to describe your friendship. And consider that Nia got drafted to Raw in 2016 after being unable to win the NXT Women’s Championship, before Ember even made her televised debut in NXT. So they didn’t “come up together” either.

There was an established friendship there to play up, and that’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do. But it was an immediate record-skipping moment when Cole started freestyling.

You know what would’ve helped more than Cole making stuff up? An inset promo from Moon talking about how she was hurt by Nia’s actions. It would’ve shown character development, motivation and angle advancement in the time it took for her to walk down the aisle.
