8 Ups And 5 Downs From WWE Raw (Jan 27)

Raw’s announce desk has been in flux for the past several months, as we’ve seen a strange interchangeable mix of announcers get their turn on the mic since Raw’s season premiere in the fall.

Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Renee Young were calling the action throughout 2019 until October, when it was shaken up to Vic Joseph, Jerry Lawler and Dio Maddin. Just a few weeks later, Maddin was written off, and Samoa Joe took his place, until he returned to action, leaving a two-man booth.

Monday, we got another shakeup, with Tom Phillips replacing Vic Joseph and Byron Saxton returning from whatever purgatory he was in to bland up our airwaves.

Saxton might seriously be one of the worst announcers WWE has produced. He adds nearly nothing to the product in terms of insightful commentary. He was barely a wrestler for a hot minute, so it’s not like he has a wealth of experience to fall back on. He just parrots whatever nonsensical WWE talking points and corporate phraseology the company pushes.

But it’s worth noting that the flux in commentary is just ridiculous. We haven’t had a set team on Raw for more than a month since October.
