8 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (August 1)

5. Strange Bedfellows

Part of the thing with split rosters is that you almost have to explore new combinations of superstars to keep things fresh. We had never seen Chris Jericho and Enzo Amore trade barbs before – and might not have with one big roster – but that’s exactly what we got Monday night to open Raw.

And it worked pretty well. Jericho seems reinvigorated as a top heel who can get under fans’ skin simply by repeating “Quiet” about 20 times. Throw in that they served essentially as seconds for Sasha Banks (Enzo) and Charlotte (Y2J) and you had an interesting and entertaining opening segment. Enzo flirting with Sasha was a little different, if crude (maybe Sasha Bank can make a Certified G deposit?), but it still kept the segment going.

The opening wasn’t a home run, but it definitely was a double, with an extra base for trying something different. Enzo showed he’s got the chops to hang with one of the best guys on the mic in Jericho, and Y2J showed he’s still got it too.
