8 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 16)

1. Needs More Corbin

Baron Corbin o king my king

Do you think someone backstage was running around high-fiving people after the King of the Ring tournament ended, yelling, “That’ll put Baron Corbin over as a top guy”?

Yep, in case you winced and missed it, Corbin won the first KOTR tourney in four years, defeated Chad Gable in the finals to become one of the most underwhelming kings of all time.

That might be a bold statement, but WWE has tried nearly everything to make fetch happen with Corbin, having him win Money in the Bank (and then fail at his cash-in), serve as Raw constable and acting GM, dominate several of the lowest-rated Raws in history, and have a multi-PPV Universal Championship program that’s already been forgotten.

During all of that, Corbin has been serviceable in the ring and shown a knack for being an annoying heel, but ultimately project “go-away heat” rather than pure heel heat.

So now he’s King of the Ring, which means Baron will be even more annoying, to the point where those of us who aren’t reviewing the show will be tempted to change the channel rather than listen to him.

And hey, maybe he’ll get another Universal Championship title shot!
