8 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 16)

Ups...

8. Another Perspective

Baron Corbin King of the Ring
WWE.com

Baron Corbin as King of the Ring is abysmal and will rank up (down?) there with Mabel and Billy Gunn when it’s all said and done.

But for a minute, let’s hypothesize that Corbin actually is able to make this work. He comes out and makes royal proclamations, beats jobbers and makes them bow to him, hits opponents with his scepter, etc. As a midcard heel act, this would actually be comical and could be entertaining – if it was done properly.

And that’s the problem. We have seen that Baron somehow projects this aura of obnoxiousness that makes it tough to stomach him. Whether it’s his speech pattern, attitude or overall presentation, he just doesn’t come off as a guy fans accept in any role – yet he keeps getting chances.

However, we’ll keep the optimism for a minute. Maybe, just maybe, Corbin will finally click with this new persona and he’ll put it all together as a midcard act, using the kingship to great effect.

Doubtful, but we’ll just offer this up as a counterweight.
