8 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 36 (Part 1)

3. Bye-Bye To Baszler’s Mystique

So let’s get this straight: Shayna Baszler defeated the SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley at Survivor Series, debuted on Raw by drawing blood from Becky Lynch, ran through the entire Raw women’s division (including Asuka) in one night at Elimination Chamber, and then lost her big title shot via the old Bret Hart counter to the Million Dollar Dream?

Look, Baszler’s run so far has been mishandled. Her chamber match was terrible, and any momentum she might have had was snuffed out by that and the ensuing changes to Raw’s presentation the past few weeks.

But WWE seemed like it was all-in on Shayna. They had her beat five other women in the Elimination Chamber to earn the title shot, giving her a shine no one else in the division has had before.

During her match with Lynch, Baszler dominated for a good amount of it and kept Becky on the ropes. But the ending felt like it was stapled on, as if there should have been a good five minutes more of Shayna beating her down and countering Becky’s offense before Lynch pulled out a last-ditch effort to get the pin.

But even then, WWE just blew any mystique they had built up with Baszler.
