8 Ups and 7 Downs From WWE Raw (June 27)

1. What's In A Name?

This is by no means a concrete thing, but if you were listening during the main event of Raw, multiple references were made to Dean Ambrose being the “WWE Champion,” not the “WWE World Heavyweight Champion.” This was done verbally (Lillian Garcia, the announcers) and via graphics on the screen.

The sudden change in WWE’s reference to its top belt couldn’t be accidental, could it? Could it be WWE stepping back from the collective name of its single world championships because there soon will be two world champions again? It would be easier to believe that WWE did this on purpose because it’s preparing to reintroduce the World Heavyweight Championship with the brand split than just a series of coincidental errors.

If this speculation holds, it’s disappointing in some ways to see WWE go right back to two world titles. It could have been interesting to have one champ traveling between the two shows, and it could have added a level of intrigue with which show former champions end up on.
