8 Ways AJ Lee Had A Huge Impact On WWE Divas Division
2. Standing Up To Authority
When you mention standing up to authority figures, the first thought for AJ obviously is the recent Twitter spat that helped spawn the #GiveDivasAChance movement. But AJ has had a couple memorable moments during her first Divas title reign where she stood up to Stephanie McMahon. Its something you dont see very often in WWE. Whereas Vince McMahon would often have a give-and-take and get his comeuppance, you rarely see Stephanie called out by the Divas (not to mention how she emasculates the men). AJ is the exception, getting in her face after winning the title in June 2013 and confronting her backstage a few months later. While AJ ultimately backed down, it showed that a woman standing up to Stephanie could be best for business. (It also likely helped pave the way for Brie Bella to battle Stephanie last summer.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBaQg4EzCpk And of course, there was the Twitter confrontation in February, which began when Stephanie McMahon thanked Patricia Arquette for standing up for equal pay and equal rights for women. AJ latched onto that and pointed out the wage inequality that exists within WWE itself, leading to an uncomfortable response from Stephanie. Maybe that was too far, but you have to admire AJ for not being afraid both on-camera and off to confront the boss.
