8 Ways The Rock's WWE Return Ruined John Cena

8. By Making The Fans Choose, They Chose The Rock

When Rock called out John Cena on his first night back, it was unclear if Cena was going to turn heel or whether they would both remain fan favourites in the build to WrestleMania XXVII. Once it started to play out and we realised that both men would remain babyfaces for the program, it forced the fans to choose who they preferred. With Rock being back after a seven year absence and becoming a global movie megastar, it was hard for the fans to not get behind him, compared to Cena who'd been in the top spot of the company for six years every single week and was, you know, just a tad overexposed. In keeping both men fan favourites, I believe that the majority of the audience chose Hercules himself, The Rock as their guy. Cena did all he could and entered some tremendous verbal performances against The Rock but it just seemed that no matter what Cena did, Rock would always come out on top and the fans weren't going to boo The Brahma Bull because they were so thrilled to see him back in a WWE ring.
