"So let me get this straight, the WWE has gone from the powerful Austin 3:16 to the dominant and iconic Can Ya Smell What The Rock Is Cookin to.....You Can't See Me?" - The Rock, February 14th, 2011 That line from The Rock was the beginning of the end for the John Cena character. For years people had talked about how he didn't measure up to Rock and Austin and now WWE were scripting the returning hero to say it on live TV. Then Rock made fun of his catchphrase, talked about all his bright shirts and how they made him look like a bowl of Fruity Pebbles, culminating in Cena in his purple shirt looking like he'd been shot out of Barney The Dinosaur's anus. Ouch. It was all pretty funny stuff, but the thing is, it was the truth. Cena did wear outlandish colours and wasn't quite as edgy as Stone Cold or The Rock. The Most Electrifying Man in all of entertainment verbalising it in front of millions of viewers just sent the message that John Cena isn't as good as the stars of the Attitude Era and that's not a message you want to send to the current fanbase.
