2. The Rock's Rare Appearances Made Him More Special & John Cena's Frequent Appearances Less Impactful
John Cena was on TV every week during his rivalry with Dwayne Johnson and that was the argument against The Rock, that The Great One would only appear sporadically meaning he didn't care about the audience. The problem was that Cena's character was continuing to get staler and staler while Rock would come in and do two or three appearances and have the crowd in the palm of his hand because, even if you're not a big fan of his wrestling, he's a massive movie star so it's awesome that you're in the building during one of his rare appearances or you're a longtime fan and you're enjoying a Rock 'Greatest Hits' Tour. As time went on in the rivalry between the two superstars, it became clear that Rock's rare appearances added to his routine and made people happier to see him whereas John Cena was there all the time so he'd become a little passe to the audience. By the time Cena won the 2013 Royal Rumble and Rock dethroned CM Punk to become the WWE Champion, we all knew where it was heading....
