8 Ways The Rock's WWE Return Ruined John Cena

3. The Rock BEAT John Cena At WrestleMania XXVIII

I was in Miami when The Rock beat John Cena and I was gobsmacked. I thought Cena had to win the match, it only made sense to have the full-time star, whose character had been mercilessly ripped apart, defeat the movie star who was returning for a short run. When Rock won, everyone in our section (including me) jumped up and down like our favourite team had won the Superbowl and, what with it being in Miami and all, the result definitely sent the crowd home happy. The next day it dawned on me that what they'd done is show the whole fanbase that a legend who peaked decade ago can come back in, rip your top babyface to shreds on the mic and pick apart his entire gimmick and then in the main event of WrestleMania, where the top star has the chance to prove the legend wrong, the legend wins and it seems as if he was right all along. The Attitude Era was better, the iconic "If Ya Smelll..." was better than "You Can't See Me". At least that's what WWE appeared to be telling us. Old was better than new, The Rock was a cool winner and Cena was a lame loser.
