8 Ways To Ensure A Successful Women's WrestleMania Main Event

5. Same Goes For Authority Figures

Many great Mania bouts have taken place using the authority figure angle, from Stone Cold Steve Austin's first encounter with The Rock at WrestleMania 15, to Yes!-tlmania, to the Shakespearean tragedy that is Roman S. Reigns III at this past year’s edition. (Et tu, Hunter?)

But at this point in the trajectory of the Women’s Revolution, the inclusion of some authority figure, whoever it may be - *cough* Stephanie McMahon! *cough* - will only draw more heat for the non-combatant than the two Superstars making real history. On the whole, the authority figure angle is getting a bit tired, considering everyone from Daniel Bryan to Erick Rowan has had a run-in with Steph and Trips in recent memory, plus the whole point of the Women’s Revolution is that the competitors are capable of great matches and stories on their own. So why bother with the same old bad boss trope? Unless, of course, it's The Boss, Sasha Banks. In that case, bad is really good.

Stephanie gave us the proof of concept with this talent-eclipsing intrusion when she had the lady balls to claim credit for the then-Divas Revolution back in 2015. Sure, she brought in a heap of call-ups from NXT, and after a rocky start, the ball got a'rolling, but that's because Steph was put at arm's length from the competitors, who were more than ready to take that ball and continue a'rolling with it.

The Superstars of the Women's Division have proven their ability to soar without help from the suits. No one has to have their job on the line, or be put under the thumb of a maniacal tyrant, or fight for more sick days and a better dental plan to give us a great story. And while the likelihood of Stephanie McMahon not making some long-winded speech before the match is about as likely as King Ross becoming a member of the Wyatt Family (see: beards), we should at least not be burdened with her incessant interference in what could be a classic build between two top Superstars for the most significant Mania main event of all time.
