8 Ways WWE Dropped The Ball With The Divas Revolution
4. Keeping The Teams After SummerSlam
The team angle was a good way to introduce girls like Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch and not allow anyone to be overshadowed, but post-SummerSlam it just became a burden. Nikki Bella was gearing up to face Charlotte, which meant that Paige, Becky and the rest of Team Bella were just stuck there being pointless backup characters. Team B.A.D. didn't have a dog in the race, so naturally their participation was limited to putting over the ladies involved, completely derailing their momentum coming out of Brooklyn, where Sasha had one of the best-performed wrestling weekends this year. They could have vastly improved the story of Nikki breaking AJ's record as longest reigning champion by holding a battle royal with everyone in the SummerSlam match and more, including Natalya and Emma, to crown the new #1 contender. Then they could've utilised this opportunity to start separate rivalries between the likes of Banks, Naomi, Lynch and Paige. For example, Sasha eliminates Naomi, Tamina sees this and eliminates Sasha, then a rivalry is started within Team B.A.D. based on Sasha trying to double-cross her friends. Just something simple to at least create a hint of direction for the odd ones out. Sure we would've missed some of the online hilarity between those three and The New Day, but it's a risk many would be willing to take. You can't just create a tag-team division overnight and expect it to stick, especially considering almost everyone involved in the angle thrives on singles competition. There were even talks of creating a Divas tag-team championship, and in hindsight it's a good thing they didn't. The roster isn't nearly stacked enough to believably support a tag division.
