8 Ways WWE Have Screwed Up Baron Corbin

3. Making Him Mr. Money In The Bank In The First Place

Baron Corbin's Money In The Bank victory was predicted months before it actually happened. Outlets like the Wrestling Observer suggested that WWE saw value in 'The Lone Wolf' as a main eventer, and would use the briefcase to lock him into a long summer program with Randy Orton. This feud obviously didn't materialise, but 'The Lone Wolf' became Mr. MITB regardless, closing the June pay-per-view on a predictable note.

We'll get to his failed cash-in later, but Corbin, for all his positive traits, was easily the least interesting option. Surrounded by some of the company's most popular, athletic, and exciting wrestlers, he stuck out like a black sheep. Fans were never going to accept him winning over someone like AJ Styles or Sami Zayn, and predictably, Baron's triumph got nobody hyped.

Carrying the briefcase is usually a better fit for an opportunistic heel than a face, but Corbin will likely go down as one of the most boring winners in the event's history. His lack of crowd investment compared to the other wrestlers in the match made for a deflating outcome, and while Baron's win wasn't met with complete rejection from the fans, you'd have been hard pressed to find somebody who was legitimately excited about him as Mr. MITB.
