8 Worst WWE Tag Champs Of Brand Extension Era

1. The Miz & Shane McMahon (SmackDown)

So a quick note about this list: Amazingly, the SmackDown Tag Team Championship has been largely held by established teams or at least serious duos. The Wyatt Family/Bludgeon Brothers, New Day, Usos, Hardy Boyz, Street Profits, the Revival, Dirty Dawgs and the Mysterios account for the vast majority of title reigns for the blue brand.

But one tag title reign stands out as the worst of the bunch: Miz & Shane McMahon. Yep, ol’ Shane-O-Mac found his way to WWE gold in 2019 amidst his “Best in the World” gimmick while he was still the SmackDown GM.

What made this particularly galling was that It was Miz who sought out Shane to be his tag partner, as if the then-49-year-old executive was a savant in the ring. Worse, it was Shane who would look strong in their matches together, rather than the former world champ Miz getting the hot tag and running wild.

The duo defeated The Bar (seriously, what did those two do to deserve losing their tag titles to a 10-year-old kid and Shane within a one-year span?) and would quickly lose them to the Usos, with Miz taking the fall. This would trigger a heel turn for Shane, who would become an egomaniacal GM with pure “go-away” heat.

But watching McMahon sweat and gasp his way through that Royal Rumble tag title match against The Bar is enough to make you scream at your TV, making this duo the Worst in the World.
