8 Wrestlers Who Couldn't Wait To Ditch Their WWE Gimmicks After Leaving
3. Shane Douglas
Shane Douglas is one of the seminal figures in ECW history and played a large part in setting the company apart from its competitors following its secession from the NWA. However, while Douglas was instrumental in raising the profile of ECW so it could be viewed alongside the giants of WWE and WCW, his stints in the two premier promotions of the day did not see him earn similarly legendary status.
In 1995, Douglas would embark on his second stint in WWE, and was saddled with a college dean gimmick that directly contradicted the hardcore image he had managed to cultivate prior to his return. Dean Douglas would briefly hold the Intercontinental belt during his WWE tenure, but would ultimately leave the company amidst a feud with the Kliq less than a year later.
In his televised return to ECW, Douglas would reprise his original Shane Douglas character and later called the spell portraying Dean in WWE the worst of his entire career.
