Neville may be the Slammy award-winning breakout star of 2015, but aside from a few high-stakes matches over the summer, and a consistent desire to outdo himself as far as aerial manoeuvres go, Neville has yet to make a lasting impression as a singles competitor on the main roster. Dont get me wrong, theres nothing wrong about Neville himself and he has proven himself numerous times as a fantastic technical wrestler, but he hasnt been giving the opportunity to let his personality shine through like he did in NXT. When Neville was NXT Champion (holding the title longer than anyone in history), he was believable as the top dog on the roster. He shined against guys like Tyson Kidd, Bo Dallas, Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze, and was a more than worthy champion of a brand on the rise. Since debuting on Monday Night Raw, however, Neville hasnt really had the same effect. Instead, Neville pops up out of nowhere as an underdog, drops everyones jaws with extraordinary feats of athleticism and determination in matches against top tier talent, but ultimately falls off the map shortly thereafter to go into a meaningless series of matches with another competitor entrenched in the mid-card. Lately, for example, hes been used as little more than a prop in the rivalry between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens, needing to be saved by The Lunatic Fringe regardless of whether or not hes victorious in his matches. As a short-term goal, what Neville needs is a highly competitive match-up against Dean Ambrose to prove that he doesnt need somebody watching his back, and that while Ambrose may be the IC Champion, Neville is well capable of carrying the title with pride. He doesnt need to win the title just yet - leave that for post-WrestleMania season if needs be - but just let people know for now that Neville is still there to be try and be successful, and not to compete in inconsequential matches.
