8 Wrestling Angles Which Exploited Real Life Deaths

8. Batista Reminds Rey That "Eddie's Dead"

Unfortunately, this isn't the only time Eddie Guerrero's name appears on this list.

At Bragging Rights 2009, Batista and Rey Mysterio both lost a Fatal 4-Way for the World Heavyweight Championship. During the match, Rey broke up a pin attempt from Big Dave that would have netted the future Drax the belt, swiftly prompting Batista to turn heel after the match and beat down his long-time friend.

While his perfectly delivered line on that night, "I'm gonna rip your head off," was very much on point, his line on the following SmackDown while explaining his actions was not.

With Mysterio imploring Batista to think of what they'd been through together, and how their mutual friend Guerrero would see what was happening, Dave simply fired back with two words:

"Eddie's dead!"

It was cheap heat on a feud that was already firing on its own accord. Guerrero wasn't a key part of the angle; he wasn't a part of it at all. It was the one and only time he was mentioned.

It was four years after Eddie had passed and it just looked like a lazy one-liner to get more heat on Batista. It was unnecessary, it didn't further the story at all. It was just poor taste for the sake of a groaning crowd reaction.
