8 Wrestling Records That Will Never Be Broken
6. Most Recurring Annual Events (83)
WrestleMania is a pioneer when it comes to annual wrestling supercards, with many of WWE's top shows (such as SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and the Royal Rumble) having taken cues from the show of shows. Other major promotions have taken inspiration from WrestleMania, as well - New Japan promotes Wrestle Kingdom every January 4, and Mexico's Triple A company has hosted TripleMania each year since 1993. WrestleMania wasn't even the first - Starrcade was first held in 1983, though there were only 18 iterations of the event before WCW folded in 2001.
None of those events can compare to the longest-running annual supercard, though. Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, the Mexican promotion that stands as the world's oldest wrestling company, has been celebrating its existence every year with a commemorative show. The first, held on September 21, 1934, boasted a main event of Stephan Berne versus "Tigre" Ray Ryan. The most recent - CMLL's 82nd Anniversary Show, which took place last September 18 - saw Atlantis take on La Sombra in a mask versus mask match.
While it's quite possible that WrestleMania will reach an 82nd event, there's no reason to believe that CMLL - which has been a popular part of Mexican culture for almost a century - won't celebrate its 133rd anniversary with a show that same year.
