8 Wrestling Records That Will Never Be Broken

Steve Austin may have lost his share of WWF ownership to the McMahons at King of the Ring 1999, but the following evening on Raw, he recaptured the WWE Championship from The Undertaker.

With two of the company's most popular wrestlers having a title match on free TV, WWE set an all-time viewership record. That night, 10.72 million viewers (or, more than three times what Raw typically draws now) tuned into the overrun of Monday Night Raw to watch Austin and The Undertaker do battle. It didn't hurt the WWF that Nitro, which was already falling way behind Raw in the Monday Night Wars, countered with a Kevin Nash/David Flair match that ended early. To this day, the bout holds the record for having drawn the largest audience to ever watch wrestling on U.S. cable TV.

Still, that's a record that could be broken someday (though no time soon, the way things are going). After all, wrestling could be hugely popular in twenty years. Here's the part of the achievement that will last forever - the segment drew a 9.5 ratings share. In other words, one out of every six TV sets with cable that was turned on at the time was showing the match.

That's a feat that will never be bested.
