8 WWE Booking Steps For Goldberg After Brock Lesnar Squash

5. Goldberg On The Warpath

The following week sees Goldberg stride into Stephanie and Mick’s office and demand Lesnar is reinstated. He wants to conquer the Beast again, but he can’t do that if he’s not allowed in the building. The authority figures, naturally, refuse, but they can tell Goldberg has a lot of pent-up aggression, and they decide to give him the chance to let it off.

Goldberg is booked against an arbitrary midcard opponent later that evening. He destroys the poor soul like one of his old WCW victims, and takes the microphone afterwards. Goldberg doubles down on his desire to fight Brock Lesnar, but, being the babyface, leaves without causing too much of a scene.

The following weeks depend on Goldberg’s physical condition. If he’s able to wrestle semi-regularly, WWE can continue his momentum by having him flatten a series of wrestlers in dominant fashion. If not, they can keep his appearances as sporadic as they’ve been since his return - a format that has worked incredibly well for them.

At some point, it’s announced that Goldberg will participate in the 2017 Royal Rumble. He likely accomplishes this by winning a qualifying match, and in the run-up to the match itself, Goldberg becomes embroiled in a brief confrontation with WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens. Goldberg is immediately installed as a favourite to win the Rumble, while Lesnar hasn’t been seen in weeks.
