8 WWE Champions Who Revived A Dying Title
2. Neville - Cruiserweight Championship
With heart-stopping action, unique presentation and an aura unlike typical WWE programming, the Cruiserweight Classic was truly spectacular in every sense. What's more, the winner would also be crowned the first champion of the revived Cruiserweight Division, adding high stakes to an already intriguing concept.
Sadly, the subsequent introduction of the Cruiserweights on regular WWE TV was nowhere near as awesome as its initial return. Presented as a freak show attraction on Raw - with its own ropes, lighting and canvas logos - it was quickly evident that the newest addition to WWE programming wasn't catching on. The struggles of 205 Live echoed that assumption and the return of the Cruiserweight Championship was becoming a rapid failure.
That was until Neville returned at Roadblock in December 2016. Immediately turning heel on Cruiserweight Champion, Rich Swann, the nasty side of Neville was hugely refreshing - for both the man and the division - giving the Cruiserweight Championship the attention it needed and deserved.
Neville won the title at Royal Rumble 2017 in front of 52,000 fans in the Alamodome, and his exploits quickly became a highlight of Raw. His feud with the awesome Austin Aries continued this ascent and their match at WrestleMania 33 was one of the best of the entire show.
