8 WWE Factions You Totally Forgot Existed

2. Los Boricuas

The then-WWF kind of had a thing in the Attitude Era about grouping people off largely by race/nationality. There was the Canadian Hart Foundation, the African-American Nation of Domination, the Japanese Kai En Tai, and then this group: Los Boricuas, a group of four men, all from Puerto Rico. Formed by leader Savio Vega upon being spurned by Nation leader Faarooq, Los Boricuas also consisted of Miguel Perez, Jose Estrada, Jr., and Jesús Castillo. Interestingly enough, everyone in the stable was a second-generation wrestler except for Savio himself, two of which had their lineage even go back into WWF history. Of note is that the "Gang Wars" storyline came to a head as the leaders of the three factions squared off, with Vega the winner. That would see Los Boricuas split into two tag teams, followed by Vega losing in a quarterfinal match in the notorious Brawl for All tournament, marking his last appearance in the company. The rest remained on hand, mostly performing as jobbers on the likes of Shotgun Saturday Night and WWF SuperAstros, as well as the occasional bout on Raw. In fact, it was one such instance of the latter which saw Estrada's WWF career come to a close, thanks to an accidental neck-breaking at the hands of debuting new Superstar Edge.
