8 WWE Matches That Should Have Meant Way More

1. WWE vs. The Alliance (Survivor Series 2001)

Steve Austin, The Rock, Stunner

To anyone growing up during the late 1980s and throughout the 90s, the mere thought of WWF vs. WCW warfare had the blood pumping. What would it be like to see WCW stars like Sting and Goldberg invade the WWF? Just how cool would it be to witness old WWF stalwarts like Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage return?

The 'WCW Invasion' was less money-making certainty and more wrestling fan nightmare, because the WWF didn't get any of those top names (at least not until the actual storyline had concluded). A battle for control of North American wrestling should have been colossal, but a WWF vs. WCW war boiled down to The Rock vs. Steve Austin at Survivor Series 2001.

This very match had just been the main event of WrestleMania X-Seven and had been witnessed countless times on WWF TV/pay-per-view over the years. Lack of WCW star power or not, the McMahon family screwed up one of wrestling's most interesting stories.

The less said about ECW's tepid influence as a WCW sympathiser, the better. How did they mess this one up so badly?
