8 WWE Monsters Who Had Their Push Killed By John Cena

5. Umaga

When Umaga arrived on Raw back in 2006, he destroyed everyone in his path. With his barbaric fighting style and his deadly Samoan Spike, he was unlike anything the WWE Universe had ever seen as he viciously overcame the likes of Ric Flair and Kane.

His undefeated streak became the stuff of legend as we all wondered who would finally slay this beast. Unfortunately, this buzz was completely wasted when John Cena handed 'The Samoan Bulldozer' his first loss with a roll-up, before decisively destroying him in a Last Man Standing Match the following month.

On that note, Cena's performance in the latter match was problematic at best. Throughout the match, he would sell a rib injury, only to drop it altogether and go into full-Superman mode with an all-out assault. Naturally, this inconsistent selling just made Umaga's offence seem much less effective and undermined the story they were attempting to tell.

However, the booking of this feud was the real issue because, while the initial roll-up certainly protected Umaga from suffering a clean loss, that was all undone by the subsequent one, so now when we look back at it, all we'll see is that Umaga suffered back-to-back losses to Cena - losses which obliterated his hard-earned momentum.

The creative team could have evened things out by having Umaga go over in their first bout, before Cena inevitably sent him packing the second time around but, much like we saw during his feud with Khali, that effective approach simply wasn't an option when it came to booking 'Big Match John'.
