8 WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2020 Impulse Reactions

4. Dexter Lumis Vs. Cameron Grimes

Going into WarGames, Dexter Lumis Vs Cameron Grimes didn't just feel like a needless do-over of a well-concluded feud but a stain on the prestigious TakeOver brand NXT has spent years cultivating.

If that sounds harsh on the performers, consider what we the audience have already had to endure. There was partial charm to the Halloween Havoc House Of Terrors match/spectacle, but absolutely none by the time they fought in a Capitol Wrestling Center blindfold match. Not least with this stipulation - Grimes had a strap stinker with Roderick Strong for f*cks sake. Could he turn a corner here?

Yes, actually. Well, sort of.

Much like the match before it, this was an enjoyable let-me-up from the opener rather than an outstanding battle on its own terms. Credit to matchmakers for knowing the strengths (?) of the Lumis to give him a TakeOver showcase here rather than on an event that may have exposed his limitations. As a versatile and unique prospect on this brand, Grimes has no such worries and should feel proud of his contributions to this feud despite defeat here.

This was no disaster at all, with a couple of spots on the floor even getting both guys over as pro wrestlers instead of warped and morbid caricatures. The company would do well to remember this with whomever both men are paired against next.
