What should have main-evented: The Rock vs. Mankind

While 1998 was an incredibly successful year for WWE, as it finally saw them pull ahead of WCW in the Monday Night Wars, there were problems creatively. A big issue was that there were only four main-eventers for most of the year: Austin, Mick Foley, Kane, and The Undertaker. Over and over like clockwork, these four men would do battle in various combinations, and by the end of the year, it was quite tiresome.

With the Rock winning the WWF Championship at Survivor Series, here was their chance to give someone else the main event spotlight and freshen things up. Instead, however, fans were treated to yet another Austin-Undertaker main event, this time a 'Buried Alive' match. So yes, The Rock was on the undercard of a show named after his move.

Truly, Dwayne was the CM Punk of his day.
