What should have main-evented: Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart

The Fake Undertaker. The Underfaker. Ted DiBiase dressed up a big dude in black clothing and claimed he was The Undertaker. Paul Bearer was like, “Uh... no he’s not, I’ve got the real one.” This dispute was settled in the main event of SummerSlam. No, really. This. This silly, ridiculous crap.

For those unaware: before this match, Bret Hart defended the WWF Championship against his brother Owen inside a steel cage in an absolute classic. It’s a 30-plus minute war, and the best example of how you can make a cage match brutal and intense without using a drop of blood.

And then there’s The Undertaker vs. The Underfaker, which clocks in at about eight minutes to absolutely zero fanfare or interest. Then again, why would they care? It’s Undertaker vs. Underfaker. Say that five times right now and see if you can remotely take it seriously. You can’t. It’s impossible.

In the history of SummerSlam, it’s in the top five for worst main events, and overall, it’s the most egregious example of “it’s the Undertaker, he’ll draw” being used to justify the most ludicrous bumping down of a title match in favor of gimmicked sports entertainment nonsense.
