8 WWE Wrestlers Who Won World & Intercontinental Championships In The Same Year

7. Diesel - 1994

Two years on from Hart's unique double, Diesel became the second man to achieve the feat. The two titles represented Diesel's first in the company, as Big Daddy Cool became the fastest rising star in North American professional wrestling. The then-WWF was rocked by steroid scandals at the time, and as a clean big man Diesel was the main beneficiary.

Diesel won the Intercontinental Championship by defeating fellow future Outsider Razor Ramon, with the title change coming on an episode of Superstars in April 1994. It was Razor who ended Diesel's championship reign, 'The Bad Guy' regaining the title at SummerSlam '94. Razor had Shawn Michaels to thank however, after HBK inadvertently hit his bodyguard with Sweet Chin Music.

'Big Daddy Cool' didn't have to wait too long to become champion once again. Three months after losing to Razor, Diesel squashed Bob Backlund in just eight seconds to win the WWF Championship for the first time. Much like Bret's win in 1992, this happened at a house show. The WWF sure did love a major title change on a house show...

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
