9 Awful Proposed WWE Gimmicks That Thankfully Never Made It To TV

6. Batista The 'Rape Child'

On the list of 'issues to handle with sensitivity', rape must rank pretty highly. It's an awful, awful thing and, really, if it's not dealt with the in the correct manner, it shouldn't be dealt with at all. WWE have been accused in the past of trivialising date rape with the Triple H/Stephanie wedding, but have managed to steer clear of the issue, by and large. In 2002, however, WWE seemed to be on a crusade to offend as many people as possible. How else do you explain the fake Billy and Chuck wedding, Katie Vick and HLA? Hollywood star Batista debuted on WWE TV in 2002 as Reverend D-Von's muscle, Deacon Batista. It was a poor gimmick, but it could have been a whole lot worse. During his appearance on Chris Jericho's Talk is Jericho podcast in December 2014, Batista mentioned that his character nearly went in a very different direction. In order to explain why he was always angry, it was going to be revealed that Batista was a 'rape child' and that he was always angry because his mother was raped and he never knew who the father was. Thankfully this never made it into Batista's backstory. It could have been a career-killer.
