9 Best Eras Of The Biggest WWE Superstars

6. 'The Macho Man' Randy Savage (1987-1990)

In a career spanning three decades, Randy Savage would win twenty championships, including the WWF world title on two occasions €“ WWE have also named him the greatest Intercontinental champion of all time. It€™s true that the glory days of the IC title are synonymous with phenomenal workers like Savage, Bret Hart, etc. These days, the Intercontinental belt is the kiss of death for an up-and-coming WWE superstar: back in Savage€™s day, he€™d help elevate it to a step below the world title, holding the belt for fourteen months until Ricky €˜The Dragon€™ Steamboat took it from him in what€™s widely considered to be one of the greatest Wrestlemania matches of all time, at Wrestlemania III in 1987. The best years of The Macho Man€™s career were undoubtedly when headed towards the main event in the WWF. He was considered one of the biggest free agents in wrestling when he signed with the WWF in 1985, and went from strength to strength with the company: scuttlebutt (like gossip being pushed to the main event) has it that at one point he was drawing money roughly equivalent to his friend/enemy/rival Hulk Hogan. Winning the WWF championship in a tournament at Wrestlemania IV, he'd hold it for a year, dropping it to Hogan at Wrestlemania V. The following year saw him drop back to the upper mid-card again, rocking the 'Macho King' gimmick after his 1989 King Of The Ring victory. He would only appear sporadically for the company after 1992, sitting on colour commentary for most of 1993 and 1994 until his contract expired and he jumped ship to WCW.
