9 Best Martial Artists Turned Wrestlers

5. Dan Severn

Dan "The Beast" Severn has a pretty solid pedigree in the world of cage fighting. He began his training as a Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestler, being credited with holding over 100 various national and international amateur wrestling titles. He's also trained in Judo and Sambo (a form of empty hand self defense) and competed in the UFC during its early days. During that run, Severn defeated the likes of Tank Abbott, Forrest Griffin, and Ken Shamrock. Severn has since racked up over 100 official wins as a mixed martial artist. "The Beast" was a big thing in the NWA for a while, eventually moving into WWE during the oft-forgotten, NWA invasion angle. He played up his real-life rivalry with Shamrock, creating some genuinely interesting matches together. He also participated in the much maligned Brawl For All, though he withdrew himself from the competition after advancing to the second round. He's mostly retired from both sports now, though he still trains wrestlers at Michigan Sports Camps, which he founded.
