There’s one man in the WWE you can always rely on to deliver a top-notch promo, and his name is John Cena.
The face of the company instantly gave the brand split a sense of legitimacy with his comments on the Draft. He discussed the idea of Raw being the top show, and suggested people reconsider that notion in light of his drafting to SmackDown.
And he also praised AJ Styles, noting that despite their differences he knows that he’s a guy he can count on to make the brand stronger than its competition.
Everything about the way he referenced the Draft made it seem as though it was more than just a splitting of the roster, that somehow his livelihood really was dependant on SmackDown outperforming Raw. And his passionate speech about how “everything can be done at once” even had me hyped by the end of it.
Giving the Draft that kind of respect makes this whole thing all the more exciting, and if Cena’s right about his hopes for SmackDown, the future's looking good for us fans.
