9 Best WWE Moments From Superstars Released On Black Thursday 2021
3. Kalisto's Underrated 'Mania Classic
He never did recover from his promise to make a good lucha thing.
Unfortunately, Kalisto's WWE career will always be remembered for his horrific promo at the 2016 draft, an awkward rambling that echoed the iconic threats of 'Jumping' Jeff Farmer. Some things are just impossible to come back from, although he did eventually pick up a singles win over Braun Strowman in a dumpster match on RAW. Probably best to forget that the win was as lucky as they come and Kalisto ended the segment in a dumpster being pushed off the stage.
Before everything went south, Kalisto was carving out a pretty decent career for himself in WWE. He won the NXT Tag Team Championships with Sin Cara before graduating to the main roster and winning a couple of United States titles, dethroning Alberto Del Rio on both occasions, a Del Rio that had actually defeated John Cena clean for that title just months prior. Things were looking up for the Lucha Dragon.
Kalisto defended that United States Championship in the opening kick-off match at WrestleMania 32, defeating Ryback as fans streamed into the stadium. The match was overshadowed by pretty much everything that came after it and that is a shame, as the two put on a far better match than 'Kalisto vs. Ryback' promised. If you don't remember it all I suggest going back and giving it another look; you'll be more than pleasantly surprised.
It was definitely a good lucha thing, that much is certain.
