9 Biggest Opportunities WWE Missed At Wrestlemania 32
8. Cementing AJ Styles
What's the biggest pop heard at a WWE event in 2016? I'll just save you the time here; it's the one that greeted the words "I Am Phenomenal" being writ large at the Royal Rumble. A reaction so electric it was measured in both ohms and omgs.
We're not naive though. Nobody was expecting Styles to march into the ring, toss Reigns over the top, and walk straight into the main event picture. After all, this is WWE here. After being a huge name in another promotion, then tearing the roof off at a Rumble on his debut, Tazz was smashing trashcan lids over Rodney and Pete Gas by the time he got to his first WrestleMania. All things considered, a feud with Jericho looked like reasonable booking.
But only if he went over.
Instead the rubber between Y2AJ (incidentally, just as most fans stop cringing at that acronym) ended with part-time, front-mulled, rock-dad Chris Jericho leaving potential-future-chamption, technical-innovator, AJ-Styles-for-f***s-sake AJ Styles looking at the lights. A win would have moved him on nicely to feud higher up the card, but a loss leaves him looking at... christ... I dunno... something with Fandango on SmackDown about which hair conditioner they use?
