Cruiserweight wrestling has been given something of a mainstream shot in the arm by World Wrestling Entertainment, and one of the takeaways from the Cruiserweight Classic was how badly TNA has booked its X-Division over the last few years. This is nothing new, but there is absolutely no reason why the matches we got on the CWC couldn't have peppered TNA shows of recent times.

Ahead of Bound for Glory, the biggest show of TNA's year, the X-Division Championship match was a last minute addition to the card. DJ Z defended his title against Trevor Lee, who continues to seem like a shadow of his PWG self. With talent like Z, Lee, Mark Andrews and Andrew Everett on their roster, there is no reason why the X-Division can't be told to just go out and put on great 10-15 minute TV wrestling.

Unfortunately, the overlooked nature of the division will continue in 2017. The championship will be defended, but it won't really matter. The throwaway opening spot beckons.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
