9 Greatest Factions Never To Appear In WWE
1. The Four Horsemen
Incredibly, despite Triple H's best attempts to create his own minutely evolved version, the greatest faction of them all never appeared in WWE.
Considered by many to be the definitive stable of professional wrestling, The Four Horsemen began life in Jim Crockett Promotions. Comprising Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn and Ole Anderson, the group were the undisputed elite of the Mid-Atlantic territory. They had a very simple objective: be the best, and live like kings.
Under the wise guidance of JJ Dillon, the team took hold of all the NWA gold on several occasions. The Andersons held NWA tag straps, Tully became NWA National Heavyweight Champion and Flair was rarely seen without the coveted NWA Heavyweight Championship. It was practically an extra appendage.
No group won more, earned more, or drew more than The Horsemen. They were an institution of Jim Crockett Promotions, so it was no wonder the company desperately, repeatedly, tried to recreate them after the first incarnation dissolved. Unsurprisingly, the likes of Steve McMichael, Sid, and Paul Roma could never plug the gaps, but the group somehow always managed to retain at least some vestiges of its prestige. The reaction as Ric Flair returned to reunite his fellow riders of doom in 1998 against the nWo proved how timeless the quartet was.
When Ric Flair eventually made amends with WWE in 2001, the company had one last opportunity to bring wrestling's greatest stable to their rings. Instead, in a fit of egomania, Triple H founded Four Horsemen facsimile Evolution - with Flair shunted to an honorary role.
