9 Insane Real-Life Randy Savage Stories

1. The Rap Album

Okay, this one has been referenced elsewhere in this article, but it deserves its own entry. Macho Man Randy Savage, professional wrestler with no experience in the music industry, decided to record a rap album in 2003. To say that that the announcement of this project was a surprise would be an understatement. Few in the wrestling or music business could believe it and those that did hardly took it seriously. Why the hell was Randy Savage recording a rap album? He didn't need the money, had just come off a show-stealing turn in a big-budget Hollywood film and was a 50-year-old man. Despite being a big star in his day, he hardly had the type of street cred necessary to have a legitimate rap career. According to Randy's brother Lanny, Savage took the project very, very seriously and expected it to sell millions of copies worldwide. A concert tour was planned and a second album had already been discussed. Sales must not have been great, because the talked about follow-up record was scrapped. The reviews certainly weren't kind, but the album isn't as bad as some reviewers would have you believe. A little bit insane? Yes. But out-and-out terrible? No, not quite. Savage was clearly a fan of the genre but none of the tracks (besides the Hulk Hogan diss/title track Be A Man) were written by him.
