9 Johnny Gargano WWE Attires Inspired By Superheroes (And Their Hidden Meanings)

1. TakeOver: XXV - Captain Marvel

Johnny Gargano Punisher
WWE Network

The previous TakeOver had seen Johnny go higher, faster, and further than ever before as he finally captured the vacant NXT Championship. He was no longer the underdog he'd long been, having become what he had always embodied in spirit: the captain of the NXT brand. That previous milestone and his renewed confidence was on full display when Gargano entered TakeOver: XXV in red and blue gear inspired by the recent Captain Marvel film. He was flying high ahead of his title defense against the villain he'd vanquished previously, the Undisputed Era's Adam Cole.

Much like the film itself, however, Johnny was faced with a divisive fanbase who actually booed him upon his introduction. From there, the dream Johnny was living crumbled further by the night's end in Bridgeport, Connecticut. While Carol Danvers' failed to defeat Thanos on her own in Avengers: Endgame, the giant purple villain was eventually destroyed by the movie's end. However, NXT's big bad Adam Cole not only managed to walk away from his arduous battle with Gargano, but did so with the brand's coveted gold belt around his waist.
