9 Last-Minute WWE Royal Rumble 2018 Rumours You Need To Know

9. A Cross Brand Challenge From The Past For Roode

Bobby Roode Unites States Champion

It is a clear indication of how far WWE’s secondary titles have fallen that there is little noise surrounding Bobby Roode’s first United States Championship defence. The Glorious One is scheduled to defend the title on the Kickoff show, but his opponent is the ever-dangerous TBD. Who will challenge Roode? Sadly, nobody seems to care.

The name on the lips of most seems to be Dolph Ziggler, but there are bigger rumours about The Showoff’s role at the event. The cross-brand nature of the pay-per-view means some expect a RAW superstar to challenge for SmackDown’s secondary title.

The location of the Royal Rumble also offers a clue. ECW made its name in Philadelphia, and the fact this match is taking place on the Kickoff and not the main show means a major debut or call up is out of the question. Could an ECW Original step up to challenge Roode? Are there any ECW Originals on the RAW brand? Bobby Roode vs. Rhyno may well be on the cards.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
