9 Lessons Vince McMahon Should Have Learned From Ted Turner

6. Being A Workaholic Is Not Best For Business

Although back in the day Ted Turner was a narcissistic egomaniac with control issues (like Vince), he never let that affect how he ran his various businesses and foundations. Amongst many other things, he had his passion for sailing as an outlet for his peculiar form of mania. Today, seventy-seven years old and divorced for fourteen years, Turner has four 'girlfriends' that rotate in his social and personal life by arrangement and immerses himself in environmental and humanitarian concerns. This is something that McMahon should have taken to heart some time ago. He's a classic workaholic and, no, that's not a good thing. Many people use the word as a badge of honour, believing that it describes their devotion to work and the quality of their work ethic. However, there are many indications that being a workaholic is much more a function of a deep-seated insecurity, anxiety, and intimacy issues. It doesn€™t even necessarily equate to actually working hard - plenty of workaholics have issues with productivity, losing interest in completing projects, and finding it impossible to delegate decisions to others, etc. Sound familiar? Vince McMahon barely sleeps, and eats and works out while taking meetings. He's famous for engaging in tortuously long meetings on the most mundane of issues, and micromanaging as much of the day to day running of the WWE as is physically possible. He becomes unreasonably angry if he, or anyone that works for him, becomes sick and sneezing sends him into a rage, because it€™s something he can€™t control. Think about that for a second. His dedication to work may appear to be a positive, even inspirational thing - but psychologically speaking, it€™s deeply neurotic and unlikely to be good for the WWE.
