You wouldn't know it from often he's graced our screens since, but in 2007, a ripening Vince McMahon decided he was too old to be appearing on television regularly, so decided to write himself out in the most permanent way possible: by blowing himself to smithereens.

At the end of 11 June 2007 episode of Raw, the unsuspecting Chairman stepped into his limousine, and before he could even put his seatbelt on, the whole thing was up in smoke. It probably wouldn't have saved him in this instance, to be fair.

Of course, it wasn't mere humility sending McMahon up in flames. The Chairman gambled that the whodunnit would encourage shocked viewers to tune in next week to learn precisely who the culprit was. Unfortunately, an even more shocking real-life tragedy intervened before the next show, when news of the Chris Benoit murder-suicide broke. The whole angle was promptly scrapped in a rare show of good taste.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
