9 Most Emotional WWE Raw Moments Ever

2. Mick Foley Wins The WWE Championship (January 4, 1999)

Fans who got to see Daniel Bryan's fan-fueled run to the WWE Championship were undoubtedly blown away by it. Those of us who have been watching for a while, though, noticed some similarities to an equally-memorable journey from the Attitude Era. Mick Foley - who had spent years battering his body and delivering classic promos all around the world - finally started to get the recognition he deserved following a brutal Hell in a Cell match with The Undertaker in 1998. Implausibly, the addition of a sock puppet to Foley's unhinged Mankind character pushed him to the top of the card, and he was soon getting pops that rivaled those of Steve Austin. Still, it was no secret that Foley didn't have the physique and style of a typical WWE Champion, no matter how popular he was. That's why when the beloved superstar finally became WWE Champion on December 29, 1998 (the match aired on Raw six days later), fans were shocked and elated. It happened without warning - D-Generation X leader Triple H attacked Shane McMahon, leaving him easy pickings for Foley, who threatened the younger McMahon until he was granted a title shot. Later that night, with a bit of help from Austin, Foley defeated The Rock, capturing the title. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSa80CxTbCU As DX hoisted Foley up on their shoulders, the new champion celebrated a victory that inspired everyone who'd ever felt unpopular or struggled for success. Foley then grabbed the microphone, dedicated his victory to his wife and children, and ran victory laps around the ring.
