9 Next Steps For Roman Reigns After Winning The WWE US Title
4. Avoid The Royal Rumble
Looking a little further into the future, the company may be tempted to have Reigns put together a nice three-to-four-month stint with the US title, before dropping the belt right around the time of the Royal Rumble. That way, they could still place Reigns in the Rumble match and have him return to the lofty heights of WrestleMania main events in time for next year’s showcase.
For me though, that’s something that should be avoided at all costs, so much so that I’ve dedicated this entire slide to my argument.
Even if Reigns wins over the doubters, the Royal Rumble remains a touchy subject, what with his infamous victory in 2015 and his “unjust” defeat the following year (which was actually fairly well-received by the fans). Point being, thrusting Reigns back into the limelight at a PPV that he’s already had such a storied history with would likely derail any momentum that the United States title run might build.
By all means put him back in the mix sometime further down the line, but if the company ever want him to be universally accepted, in my eyes Reigns needs to avoid any involvement in the 2017 Royal Rumble match at all costs.
