9 Next WWE Steps For The Miz
4. Retain The Title At TLC
Coming out of Survivor Series, the next stop on the SmackDown pay-per-view calendar is the Tables, Ladders and Chairs show on Dec. 4, 2016.
In a wonderful twist of fate, if Miz holds onto the title until that PPV then it’ll mark day number 244 on his never-ending Intercontinental Championship tour, which just so happens to be the record for the longest reign of the 21st century.
Shelton Benjamin was the last man to hold the belt for that amount of time, winning the belt at Taboo Tuesday on Oct. 19, 2004 before dropping it to Carlito on the Jun. 20, 2005 showing of Monday Night Raw.
So to cut a long story short; if The Miz keeps the belt past TLC, he’ll become the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 21st century. As well as being a nice feather in the cap, that also has a pretty sweet ring to it.
The way the dates line up, and tying into that previous point about giving The Miz a lengthy reign, to me it makes all the sense in the world to have the champ hold the belt until TLC and retain at the event to set the record, irrespective of who his opponent may be.
