9 People Most Responsible For The Death Of WCW

2. Vince Russo

Nobody will be surprised to see the name of Vince Russo near the very top of this list. At the same time, nobody can discredit Russo's work ethic; the man certainly puts a lot of effort in when he's on the job. Such hard work can't change the fact that his time associated with WCW was horrendous.

It's slightly unfair to generalise Russo's time in the WWF as 'he needed Vince McMahon's constant direction and editing', although without McMahon's beady eyes Russo produced some horrible shows in WCW. Seriously, watch virtually anything from the latter half of 1999 and throughout much of 2000 to see evidence.

Bizarre ideas such as crowning himself and David Arquette WCW World Champion, constantly de-emphasising the importance of wins and losses, breaking the fourth wall routinely and booking countless swerves and character heel/babyface turns were all hallmarks of Russo's time in the hot seat.

Losing money due to this, WCW was comical by mid-2000. Russo is entitled to try and defend his time in charge, but that doesn't alter the truth. His relationship with WCW was harmful for everybody involved and accelerated the promotion's race towards extinction.
