9 Potential Replacements For JBL On WWE Commentary
3. Jason Albert
After retiring from in-ring competition, the man of a thousand directionless gimmicks started making the best of his wrestling experience first as a commentator for NXT, and then as interim head trainer at the Development Centre following Bill DeMott’s departure. Albert has a lot of wisdom and understanding about the wrestling business, and has actually been very engaging with his speaking. Just look at his appearance in the ‘Who is Finn Balor’ vignettes; he’s knowledgeable, speaks clearly, and sells Balor like he’s worth a million dollars. That’s the kind of person who belongs at the main roster commentary table.
If Albert were to replace JBL, he’d be very useful because he’d be able to provide viewers with not only his perspective as a former WWE Superstar, but also as an alumnus of New Japan Pro Wrestling. As WWE’s direction shifts, and internationally-trained wrestlers become more commonplace, it would make sense for someone to acknowledge the importance of other styles of pro wrestling, and Albert would do that perfectly.
Moreover, he can be quite versatile while on the microphone, as he has demonstrated an ability to be both serious and straightforward when talking about a specific wrestler, as well as comedic when the time calls for it.
One thing’s for sure: Albert wouldn’t be as brash and annoying as JBL if he were to come to the main roster.
